HEDOG Archery

12 years ago on a cold November day while hunting in a tree stand and resting the cam of his bow on his boot an idea was born.

Plato said it best “Necessity is the mother of invention.”

Nathan Lawson knew he had come up with an Idea that had the potential to become the big idea in the archery world.

Born in Salina Oklahoma and raised his entire life in the rural outskirts of small towns it is no wonder Nathan Lawson loves to hunt. To say he has been shooting arrows his entire life would be truth spoken. His first recorded kill shot was taking out the fluorescent lights in the shooting range next to his mom and dad’s shoe store at age 7.

Growing up it did not matter if it walked, swam, or flew he was shooting at it. This passion for hunting, which he claims he was born with, was soon cultivated into an obsession. This obsession, bow hunting, in a large part has shaped who he has become today.

Hunting as a whole and bow hunting in particular has become a way of life for the Lawson family. What started out as a family holiday event to put venison on the Thanksgiving table has turned into a year long quest for sustenance and trophy bragging rights.

The love of hunting has taken him from the whitetail woods of Oklahoma to far off places around the country. From bowhunting the largest carnivore in the world, the great Brown bear on the Alaska Peninsula, to hunting the high altitude Bighorn rams of Montana, Nathan would be the first to tell you how fortunate he knows he is to be able to travel and hunt the amazing animals GOD created here on earth. Throughout all of his adventures he has remained true to his roots and will be the first to tell you he can’t wait till next whitetail deer season gets here.

For a little deeper insight into Nathan’s love for bow hunting let’s take a glimpse into his preparation for hunting season. The majority of his hunts are do it yourself, get out and make it happen hunts on public land. Nathan says:

“Most all hunts that I have been on where a guide was involved were a disaster, in nearly every situation if left alone I could have had a better outcome.”

To achieve this better outcome he speaks of he prepares year round for season. In his own words he states:

“Training does not have a starting date; it is a continuous regimen that never stops. What does have a start date is the intense training which takes places before a major hunt. I also shoot my bow year round, literally every day barring some unforeseen situation.”

To dig even a little deeper, here is his take on equipment:

“All of my gear is designed to be fail proof. Very rarely am I able to buy any hunting equipment that works exceptional just as I purchased it. I am always trying to make it quieter, lighter or modify it in some way to make it better. As hard as I train and prepare for my hunts, I realize there are times when I am still going to make mistakes and I accept that even though it grates at me. What I will not accept is failure from my equipment; therefore by taking a peak into my gear list you should be able to see that my system is designed to be as failure proof as possible. By taking every aspect of the hunt and controlling as much of it as a hunter can, I guarantee myself a greater success percentage in the woods.”

Nathan’s view on preparation of the individual and gear preparation along with his constant quest for an edge when challenging himself against some of the most elusive animals on earth is what culminated into that idea on that November day 12 years ago.

This short bio of who the creator of the ArmourDillo is was given to you so that you might know that he is the real deal. When it comes to bow hunting he has as they say “been there and done that.” The ArmourDillo product came to be because of a need and that one idea has helped him harvest game on the desert floor to the most rugged peaks of Colorado’s 14ers. In his words:

“Every bow hunter is looking for an edge, whether a little faster bow, a slightly larger cutting diameter in a broadhead, better concealment in a camouflage, something, and anything for an edge. The ArmourDillo is one of those products that has done it for me and I have worked diligently to make sure that when we brought it to market it would be everything that it was advertised to be and more.”

That is why we say, ArmourDillo will earn your respect one hunt at a time.
